So, that is me. Jelle Ferwerda. I was born on august the 4th 1976 (Don't forget to send me a postcard!) and I am an ecologist by training. After obtaining my MSc. in Ecology in 2000, I started to work on this little company on the web. It took me a few months to obtain a PhP contract, but in June 2001 I started working on my PhD thesis, which deals with hyperspectral remote sensing. I worked on this for 4 years, after which I obtained a PhD degree. If you are interested in reading what I actually wrote, you can get my thesis from the ITC library pages. After spending 4 years at ITC, I was offered a position at RMIT (Australia) as a research associate. I gladly took the oppertunity, and moved to Melbourne for a year. Meanwhile, a grant moved forward in the EU system, and within weeks of moving to Australia I was asked to come back to Europe. I awarded a research grant at Oxford University. I worked for 2 years at the department of zoology, the animal tracking group. However, this project came to end. I am currently employed at the university of Twente, faculty of Engineering Technology.
Hm.. What else to write here... Of course.. My hobbies. Obviously.. I like tinkering on websites. Next to that, I used to spend a lot of time in my veggie garden, but in Australia I do not have a garden. Whenever work, websites and gardens leave time, I tend to spend it on friends, squash and, money allowing, sampling the variety of beers we get at out local bars. I also like to travel, so don't be surprised if you find me in your backyard all of the sudden!
